Your 12-month plan · month 6
my paperwork
Four steps that get your documents, your bank statements, and your inbox ready before a lender asks. Do one a week or all at once.
gather your documents
Every lender asks for the same basic stack. Tell me about your situation and I build your list. Make one folder on your phone or computer, and tap each item when it is in the folder.
How do you get paid?

Answer the question above to build your list.
Lenders want every page of a statement, even the blank ones. Download the full PDF from your bank. Screenshots usually get sent back.
Back to top ↑clean up your bank statements
A lender reads your last two months of statements line by line. Read them first. Open both months and look for any deposit that is not your paycheck. Add each one here.
Then check these four things

Work through the list above.
From now until you close, keep your accounts boring. Paychecks in, bills out. If you have to move money, write down why and keep the proof.
Back to top ↑set up a house email and number
When you start asking for quotes, your phone and inbox fill up fast. A separate email and a free Google Voice number keep all of it in one place. After you close, you turn them off.
A 2026 law stopped credit bureaus from selling your contact information to other lenders when you apply. Websites that collect quotes can still pass it around. That is what the separate email and number are for.
Back to top ↑money check-in
Same three numbers as last month: your score, your savings, and your debt. Your check-ins live in your loan pick tool, so you can see this one next to the last one.
